Monastery of Agios Panteleimon, is also a monastery that you should absolutely visit. Agios Panteleimon is located very near to Fodele village, you can combine the viisit to Agios Panteleimon Monastery with visiting too the traditional Cretan village of Fodele, as you will have to pass through Fodele in order to arrive to Agios Panteleimon which is a 5 km drive along the river through small valleys with orange and plane trees. The monastery was built in the last period of the Venetian occupation and is in complete harmony with the verdant and peaceful surrounding landscape. As the monastery was a center of the revolutionary actions during the Turkish occupation it was severaly vandalised by the Ottoman Turks but it was later reconstructed and preservs its original traditional architecture (its 14,8 km away from Agia Pelagia) |
